Leading a baby room is different.
A two-year-old can usually tell you when they're unhappy.
A baby can't.
You need to notice the change in expression, the different cry, the missed sleep cue or the child who's suddenly become quieter than usual.
That's why Tiny Tots Recruitment is looking for an experienced Baby Room Leader in Bristol who genuinely understands under-twos, not simply somebody looking for their next leadership title.
You'll be joining a growing nursery near Long Ashton that opened in September 2025 and is continuing to expand its team as child numbers increase.
Your room needs to feel calm before it looks impressive
The nursery's ethos is built around a home-from-home environment, warm relationships and what the owner describes as "professional love".
Its approach is influenced by Montessori principles, encouraging independence, curiosity and confidence through hands-on exploration while allowing children to develop at their own pace.
For babies, that means routines can't simply become a production line.
You'll lead a team that understands the importance of:
Secure attachments Consistent Key Person relationships Individual sleep and feeding routines Early communication and language Sensory exploration Physical development Supporting transitions from home into nursery Recognising individual developmental milestones Close communication with parents and carers Creating a calm and nurturing room Excellent safeguarding and hygiene practice You'll lead the adults as well as care for the babies
This is a proper Room Leader position.
You'll need to:
Lead and organise the baby-room team Maintain consistently high standards of care Support practitioners with observations and assessments Monitor children's development Make sure routines remain genuinely individual Guide less experienced staff Allocate responsibilities effectively Maintain accurate records Build strong relationships with families Support staff development Work closely with the nursery leadership team Keep safeguarding at the centre of the room Make sure the environment develops as the babies do
The employer's previous Room Leader recruitment specifically required someone who could confidently manage a team and already had substantial Room Leader experience.
Experience with babies matters
We're looking for somebody with a full and relevant Level 3 Early Years qualification as a minimum.
You'll ideally already be a:
Baby Room Leader Room Leader with strong under-two experience Senior Early Years Practitioner working predominantly with babies
Previous leadership experience is important.
The employer's Room Lead recruitment has previously asked for at least two years of Room Leader experience, so I wouldn't pitch this publicly as a first-ever step into leadership.
It's a smaller, family-focused nursery
That's another important distinction.
The nursery describes itself as a smaller, family-focused setting, with an emphasis on genuine relationships with children and families rather than children becoming one of dozens passing through a huge operation.
Parents are actively involved through stay-and-play sessions, celebrations and termly performances, while the setting places considerable emphasis on open communication between practitioners and families.
As Baby Room Leader, you'll be particularly central to that relationship.
For many parents, you're looking after their child during their first experience of being cared for outside the family.
How that relationship is handled matters enormously.
And the package is pretty decent too Approximately £33,150 per year Full-time, 42.5 hours per week Permanent opportunity Free David Lloyd gym membership for full-time staff Free on-site parking 5.6 weeks' paid holiday Additional paid birthday off One-week Christmas closure Purpose-built nursery Strong leadership support Opportunity to lead within a growing setting
The setting is based at the David Lloyd site on Ashton Road, close to Long Ashton Park & Ride, making it accessible for both drivers and bus users.
