A baby room where one of the adults might be speaking French, another Mandarin and another English is not something you come across every day.
Tiny Tots Recruitment is looking for an experienced Baby Room Leader to join a unique early years setting in Paddington, Central London.
This nursery has built its identity around multilingual early education. English sits at the heart of the curriculum, while children are also immersed every day in French, Mandarin or Russian language and culture.
For the youngest children, the focus is still exactly where it should be: security, attachment, communication, sensory exploration and trusting relationships.
Your room
You'll take responsibility for the nursery's youngest age group.
The setting maintains a 1:3 adult-to-child ratio for its 1 to 2-year-old class, allowing practitioners to give children considerably more individual attention during what is one of the most rapid periods of development.
As Room Leader, you'll make sure that quality isn't dependent on which practitioner happens to be working that day.
You'll create consistency.
That means:
Leading the day-to-day running of the youngest children's room Supporting and guiding practitioners within your team Building secure attachments with children Making sure individual routines are respected Overseeing Key Person responsibilities Supporting early communication and language development Planning sensory, physical and exploratory experiences Monitoring observations and children's developmental progress Maintaining strong partnerships with parents Supporting transitions into the next nursery room Maintaining excellent safeguarding and welfare standards Ensuring ratios, routines and room organisation are always appropriate Helping less experienced practitioners strengthen their baby-room practice Baby experience really matters here
This isn't simply a Room Leader vacancy where any age-group experience will do.
We want somebody who understands why the youngest children need a different approach.
Someone who knows that a one-year-old's communication can be a look, a gesture or a sound long before it becomes a sentence.
Someone who can reassure an anxious parent at drop-off while also supporting a practitioner through a difficult settling-in period.
Ideally you'll bring:
A full and relevant Level 3 Early Years qualification or above Strong experience with children under two Previous Room Leader, Senior Practitioner or equivalent experience Excellent understanding of the EYFS Strong safeguarding knowledge Confidence leading and developing other practitioners Experience communicating closely with parents and carers A calm, nurturing and organised leadership style
Being bilingual is not something I'm making a requirement for our advert, but it would certainly be relevant here. The nursery actively welcomes applicants who speak English, French, Mandarin or Russian.
The bit that makes this nursery different
The multilingual element isn't an occasional language class.
Children experience their second language every day, and the nursery says each child is supported by two Key Persons. Where a child's home language is one taught within the setting, they can also receive additional emotional support from a native-speaking teacher.
The setting itself occupies a bright, refurbished building in Little Venice, with well-equipped classrooms and a large garden. Outdoor play forms part of the everyday routine rather than being treated as an add-on.
A working year that's genuinely different too
This nursery operates more like a nursery school than a conventional 51-week day nursery.
Its current information confirms that it works on a termly basis, with additional holiday clubs, and closes completely over Christmas and throughout August.
I wouldn't describe that as paid holiday without seeing the employment contract, but for somebody used to working in an all-year nursery, the operating model itself is a major point of difference.
What you can expect £32,500 to £35,000 per year Permanent leadership opportunity Central London location Low 1:3 ratio for the youngest class Multilingual early years environment Daily French, Mandarin and Russian immersion within the wider nursery Large garden and regular outdoor learning Continuous professional development Professional workshops and training throughout the year Opportunity to lead a highly specialised younger-years room Nursery-school style term structure Full setting closure over Christmas and August
The employer confirms that its teachers continuously attend professional development workshops and training throughout the year, and it also offers full training towards recognised qualifications for apprentices entering the profession.
If you're an experienced practitioner who particularly loves working with the youngest children and you're looking for a Baby Room Leader job in Paddington, Maida Vale or Central London, this is one I'd genuinely put high on the list.
