Nursery Practitioner

Level 2 or Level 3 Nursery Practitioner

Norbury, London full time Permanent

£30,000 to £32,000 per year

Less paperwork. More time with the children. This Nursery Practitioner job in Norbury offers £30,000 to £32,000 per year within a small established setting where Ofsted found staff felt well supported, regular supervision was welcomed and reducing unnecessary paperwork gave practitioners more time for meaningful interactions with children.

What if your nursery actually wanted you spending more time with children?

Not filling in paperwork because somebody might possibly ask to see it one day.

Not duplicating information that's already recorded elsewhere.

Actually being with the children.

That's one of the things that stood out about this Nursery Practitioner job in Norbury.

At the setting's latest Ofsted inspection, practitioners specifically told inspectors that reduced paperwork allowed them to spend more quality time with children. They also welcomed regular supervision and reported strong support for their wellbeing.

Tiny Tots Recruitment is looking for a Level 2 or Level 3 Early Years Practitioner to join the team.

It's a smaller nursery

The setting has been part of the Norbury community since 2010 and currently describes its team as:

Five practitioners One Deputy Manager One Nursery Manager

caring for children from around 10 months to five years.

That gives it a different atmosphere from joining a huge London nursery with dozens of practitioners spread across several floors.

You're working within a team small enough for people to actually know one another.

Your day won't revolve around one activity table

The nursery follows the EYFS but brings quite a lot into its weekly programme.

Children currently take part in experiences including:

Phonics and early literacy Numeracy and problem solving Creative arts Nature walks Music and dance Cooking Gardening French Specialist sports sessions Outdoor education

You'll have responsibility for turning those opportunities into meaningful learning rather than simply moving children from one scheduled activity to another.

That includes:

Building strong relationships with your key children Observing children's development Identifying appropriate next steps Planning around children's interests Supporting communication and language Encouraging confidence and independence Supporting children's emotional wellbeing Maintaining accurate but purposeful records Working closely with parents and carers Maintaining strong safeguarding practice Supporting children with additional needs Working collaboratively with the rest of the team

At its latest inspection, Ofsted found children engaged in purposeful play based around their interests and noted positive interactions between practitioners and children.

There's even swimming

This is probably one of the more unusual extras we've come across.

The nursery operates from within a health and wellbeing centre and older children can take part in weekly swimming lessons with professional instructors.

Sessions are delivered in small groups, following Swim England's Learn to Swim framework, with nursery staff supervising poolside.

There are also specialist sports sessions delivered by an experienced PE professional.

You won't necessarily be getting in the pool yourself, but it gives children experiences that most nurseries simply can't provide on site.

Staff wellbeing isn't just a line on the careers page

At the latest Ofsted inspection, staff reported high levels of support for their wellbeing.

Examples included:

Team-building days

and

Weekly yoga sessions.

The setting was rated Good overall, including Good for quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development, and leadership and management.

The wider organisation's current recruitment package also includes:

Pension contributions matched up to 7.5% Personal wellbeing fund 22 days' annual leave plus bank holidays Paid birthday off Referral bonus scheme Confidential counselling support Free breakfast, coffee and snacks Job-related training funded Staff discount portal Paid annual flu vaccination Paid eye test DBS cost covered Paediatric First Aid support £150 attendance bonus where qualifying criteria are met

That's a considerably more substantial package than the standard "pension and uniform" nursery advert.

Who are we looking for?

The tracker requirement covers Level 2 and Level 3 qualified practitioners.

You'll ideally have:

A full and relevant Level 2 or Level 3 Early Years qualification Previous nursery experience Good understanding of the EYFS Strong safeguarding knowledge Confidence working as a Key Person A warm and patient approach Good communication with families A willingness to continue developing professionally

The wider organisation also funds relevant mandatory training, including DBS, paediatric First Aid, safeguarding, food hygiene and health and safety within its current recruitment.

The opportunity £30,000 to £32,000 per year Permanent, full-time role Level 2 and Level 3 candidates considered Small established nursery team Regular supervision Career development opportunities Strong wellbeing support Pension contribution matching Paid birthday off Personal wellbeing fund Staff discount scheme Attendance bonus Specialist sports and outdoor education Swimming provision for older children Good Ofsted rating 51-week setting Monday to Friday
