Room Leader

Nursery Room Leader

Houghton Regis, East of England full time Permanent

£25,000 to £30,000 per year

Your room should feel like yours. This Nursery Room Leader job in Houghton Regis offers £25,000 to £30,000 per year and gives you responsibility for your own team, children's development and the quality of the environment within a spacious, purpose-built nursery with extensive gardens and its own Woodland Retreat.

What would you change if somebody actually gave you ownership of the room?

The layout?

The continuous provision?

How observations are used?

The way your team works together?

How much time children spend outdoors?

Tiny Tots Recruitment is looking for a Nursery Room Leader in Houghton Regis for somebody who wants the freedom and responsibility to make a room genuinely work.

This isn't nursery-wide management.

You don't need to worry about everything happening in every corner of the building.

But your room is your responsibility.

The job is simple to explain, harder to do well

You need to create a room where:

Children are happy to arrive.

Practitioners know what they're doing.

Parents trust the team.

Learning actually has a purpose.

That means you'll be responsible for:

Leading the practitioners working within your room Organising the day so routines don't take over children's learning Creating age-appropriate activities and experiences Making sure the environment stays safe, clean and stimulating Supporting practitioners with observations and children's next steps Monitoring children's development Maintaining accurate childcare records Building strong relationships with families Organising staff and activities effectively Supporting and training team members where required Maintaining strong safeguarding and health and safety standards Looking for ways to improve your room rather than accepting "that's how we've always done it"

That's almost exactly how the employer describes its current Nursery Room Manager vacancy.

You'll have considerably more than four walls to work with

The nursery itself was purpose-built for children and has been established for more than 20 years.

There are separate environments for different age groups, newly renovated rooms and large garden spaces. The team includes Level 6-qualified practitioners, with the wider staff team qualified to at least Level 2 or Level 3.

And then there's the outdoor provision.

The nursery's Woodland Retreat gives children opportunities to:

Plant and grow vegetables Explore nature Hunt for natural objects Learn through outdoor play Take part in carefully supervised campfire experiences

without even having to leave the nursery grounds.

So if you have ideas for extending children's learning outdoors, you've actually got somewhere to put them into practice.

There's a natural-learning approach underneath it

This nursery deliberately uses more wooden and natural resources and less plastic, with environments designed around curiosity, flexible learning and children's own interests.

That's useful at Room Leader level because you're not being asked to make your room look identical every morning.

You're there to create an environment children can actually use.

One day that might mean changing an area because several children have become fascinated by construction.

Another might mean getting everyone outside because something they've discovered in the garden has suddenly become more interesting than anything you had planned.

Good Room Leaders know when to follow the plan.

And when to ditch it.

Who would this suit?

You could already be a Room Leader.

Or you might be an experienced Level 3 practitioner who has spent the last year unofficially doing most of the leadership anyway.

The employer is looking for:

A minimum Level 3 Childcare qualification Strong nursery experience Excellent knowledge of the EYFS Confidence leading other practitioners Good understanding of child development Strong organisational skills Clear communication with parents and colleagues The ability to motivate a team A genuinely caring approach to young children

You don't need to want to become a Nursery Manager tomorrow.

There's nothing wrong with wanting to become really good at leading a room first.

The essentials £25,000 to £30,000 per year Permanent, full-time position Minimum Level 3 qualification Responsibility for your own nursery room Team leadership and supervision Newly renovated nursery environments Large gardens On-site Woodland Retreat Natural, curiosity-led curriculum Experienced and qualified wider staff team Established nursery operating for more than 20 years Monday to Friday setting

The nursery is based on Tithe Farm Road in Houghton Regis, despite some job boards describing the location simply as Dunstable.

If you're looking for a Nursery Room Leader job in Houghton Regis, Room Manager position near Dunstable or a Level 3 early years leadership role close to Luton, we'd love to hear from you.
