Room Leader

Permanent baby room leader jobs

Room LeaderPermanent UK-wide

Leading the under-twos. The tightest ratio in the building, the most anxious parents, and the hardest room in the country to staff.

£29,000 to £34,000 outside London

Guide band for 2026. See how we work these out.

The baby room runs at 1:3, needs a Level 3 with under-twos experience leading it, and requires at least half its staff to hold training in the care of babies. It is the room settings most struggle to fill, which is very good news if this is what you do.

What the role involves

  • Leading the under-twos room on a 1:3 ratio
  • Settling new babies, and holding their parents' confidence while you do it
  • Sleep, feeding and nappy routines, and the records that go with them
  • Watching for developmental concerns at the age they are easiest to miss
  • Making sure the room's staff hold the baby-specific training the framework requires

What you will need

  • Level 3 with genuine under-twos experience, which the framework requires of the lead
  • Calm. A baby room's mood follows whoever is leading it
  • Skill with anxious first-time parents, which is half the job

Also advertised as: Baby Room Manager, Under 2s Room Leader. Settings use these titles more or less interchangeably, so search for all of them.
